Interactive Mirror from Alpay Kasal on Vimeo.

From the folks who brought you lasergames- a similar concept, but with a mirror- this could be way cool in bathrooms, dressing rooms, homes, bars, restaurants, um, anywhere actually.

I just got an email about the launching of the Best Buy Instruments Store.

I understand expanding your brand- but you are stepping into a deep and competitive market. I hope to see you fail because frankly, I hate your brand, your store, company policies, shoddy practices and the way you completely sucker middle America into buying shit electronics for too much money and make them think they are getting a good deal. You are the shrine to all that is filler and no thriller, marketing over actual quality. You are the BOSE of electronics department retail stores. But I know how it’s going to end. You’ll be fine. Due to your scale, current brand rep, distribution, you will be a run of the mill, mediocre priced, retailer of average instruments. Nothing special. Fender, Gibson, Yamaha, the basics… Your sales associates will still be under trained and clueless. The warranties will be overpriced and ridiculous. You’ll probably start trying to offer lessons, maybe component repair and servicing. It will all be pretty bland, unspectacular, a cash cow. BUT! Now that 10 year old brat kids parents who NEED to get him the PS3 and Fender Strat he asked for can shop in one place.

BTW, nice use of black letter, would you like to copy every generic music flier even more?

Guitar Hero World Tour – by Droga5

The link at the end brings you to this site- So it appears to be just some project, but I would not be surprised at all if it was commissioned by Nike. The easy to spot product placement and BRIGHT YELLOW Nike SHOES! gotta be. (original link via College Humor)

Ok, so this might be old news, since I don’t stay up with Google news that much, but I was looking for directions to a store in DC, and noticed the street view button was present. I clicked it, and low and behold every street in DC has been covered (“with the exception of Pennsylvania Avenue and E Street NW by the White House, some military areas, and the Hillandale gated community in Burleith”). It’s awesome. Ok- Well, it looks like according to the DCist- it was Launched Nov 4th, 2008, so I’m not THAT far behind.

Still really freakin cool- Look ma! My house!

So right now some folks are still waiting in line for the special edition Washington Post- production issues have pushed the delivery time back to 7-8pm EST.

Since about 7am this morning every newsstand, corner store, coin operated news machine and supermarket have been out of every paper from the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Globe, New York Times and Washington Post- the Washington Post, out, in Washington DC!

Already people have spent $15-50 for copies of today’s NYTimes. Some are even listed for almost TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS! The paper isn’t even a day old.

I quit waiting in line at my Giant at about 6pm after getting there at 10 to 5. The line was about 20-30 people, some stayed even after they heard the paper won’t be there for possibly another two hours. Madness!

But I guess this is good. This is a sign of amazement and passion. Sounds like the right direction to me. I really look forward to seeing where this goes. Hooray for Democracy.

So you may or may not have read my previous entry about my long and ongoing issue with Flickr, Yahoo! and both of their Customer Service/Abuse departments. The short of it: My Y! ID/Flickr account was deleted over a month ago, I tried to find out why I was booted and what I could do about it and basically have been getting the cold shoulder from both Yahoo! and Flickr for weeks. So I stumbled on Heather Champ, the Flickr Community Manager’s personal email on her website. I emailed her and finally found out that my account was deleted for something else- she replied via the Flickr case number I referenced in the original message:

Adam,

Your Y! ID was deactivated elsewhere on the Yahoo! network
for abuse. When this happens, it results in the termination
of all of all your activity across the Yahoo! network.

We’re not privy to the reasons for the original Y! ID
deactivation. You’ll need to contact Yahoo! directly.

Heather

I find this kind of odd, because I only used my Y! ID for Flickr- so either, this isn’t true, or someone hacked my account. Either way, it’s an actual answer, so I can move on.

Taking back your Ex

But now, I can start to understand drug addicts, abusive relationships and terrible marriages. Even after weeks of running me in circles, outright ignoring me, and the fact that I didn’t get a response until I directly contacted a staff member. (I also have still not heard from regular Yahoo! support.) I want to go back. I mean, I’ll cut Flickr some slack, I did get an answer. Even if the answer opens up even more questions, it’s an answer. Yet, I feel like such a sellout. But still, I really like Flickr. I like the concept and it’s snazzy interface, API, web 2.0ness and community features. In fact, I’m reregistering and opening up a new Flickr account in another tab while I am writing this. But I’m not doing it without internal conflict.
Now, I’m not going straight back to a Pro account, but it’s only a matter of time. I’ll ease back into it, become comfortable again. My hurt and hesitations will fade away. But part of me feels like this is comparable to taking back an ex who cheated on me, which I’ve never done. It feels cheap and wrong. They violated my trust and showed me their true colors- but I still need them. I really do love Flickr. However, how many times can I waste my money and time. What if this happens again?
But I also believe in forgiveness. So consider this it. Only time will tell if this turns out to be more like a rocking spot in an otherwise good relationship or the tell tale signs of more to come. Right now it just feels like a drug addiction, but we’ll see. I just hope things go better this time around.
